La Esperanza Farm is a unique 12 acre farm nestled in the heart of the Forest Grove Community. It is managed by Adelante Agricultura, a sustainable farming program of the non profit Adelante Mujeres. Currently, twelve Latino families work the land using sustainable farming techniques. They are committed to producing wholesome food without the use of chemicals or pesticides. These farmers incorporate sustainable methods of crop diversity, soil management and water conservation, and constructed a new green house this year.
Families work a quarter of an acre of land, and this coming season they expect to collectively produce a large variety of fresh vegetables and herbs. They will grow many of the seasonal favorites, such as tomatoes, mixed greens, watermelon, squash, carrots, and sweet corn as well as unique or culturally significant favorites such as tomatillos, cilantro, huauzontle, epazote, and fava beans.
La Esperanza Farm produce should hit local vendor sites—such as the Forest Grove Farmers Market—by mid-May. La Esperanza farmers are also offering CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares this season.
